On Deck: The New Flex Interface

I haven't written anything about the new Flex/Flash interface yet, I think it's time to catch everyone up on what's been going on behind the scenes at Empressr.

You have seen the new features being added to the web site, but not much to the editor (Composr). Launching this September is a completely rewritten Flex based editor for v3.

The main reason for the rewrite is to make the user experience a much more engaging one, we think we nailed that! The user interface is intuitive, beautiful and quite elegant, it works more like a desktop app, and the speed has been increased by using remote procedure calls.

Empressr's strength has always been how it utilized rich media; we have been expanding those capabilities and the new Composr takes true advantage of this, with quick searching of your library, expanded meta data, drag and drop from the Library to the Stage, and quick filtering by media type. All these features make Empressr a dream to create with. We'll update you on the new and updated features that will come with the new Flex UI in the coming weeks.

Roadshow: FlashForward2007

On Deck: Powerpoint Upload

The next feature release will give you the ability to upload your PowerPoint file to Empressr, we will extract out the slides as images and build a image based presentation. This will allow you to share work that you have previously created in PowerPoint with your friends and colleagues.

Like the Quick Show feature once you create the PPT Show, you can open it in the Empressr Composr and add addition media like videos and animations, images, text and charts.

The Roots of the name Empressr

The word Empresser, that we shortened to Empressr comes from middle English impressen, to imprint, from Old French empresser, from Latin impressus. I think that's pretty cool.

Quick Show Feature Launches Today

Today we released the Empressr Quick Show feature that provides you with a fast and easy way to create a presentation using the assets in your Library. A multi-asset upload feature provides a fast way to populate your library with images, videos and swf files.

Log into Empressr, If you already have images in your Library then select the + Quick Show button



To add images to your Library, select the My Asset Library from the top menu, select the "Browse" button and select multiple images from your local computer. Select Upload. Files sizes and the quantity of images you upload determine the length of time it takes to upload.





Then go back to your home by selecting My Empressr's and click + Quick Show



Give your Quick Show a name, then drag images from your Library to the Quick Show Designer. If you would like to rearrange the order click the Arrange Show button, the select Save Quick Show



To add additional images, text or video to your Quick Show you can open in the Empressr Composr.

To have a Preview of the first slide appear in the published version you need to open your Quick Show, select the first slide and then save.

Empressr Fall Roadshow: The New New Internet 07

Empressr will be part of the Technology Showcase, at The New New Internet show, this is a competition one company will be chosen to be the "Technology Pace Setter". We are excited to be a part of the showcase, we are also psyched that we don't have to cross the country to do it. Finally some east coast technology presence!

Empressr Fall Roadshow: Office 2.0 Conference

We have been invited to a lot of places this fall, so it's going to be a busy season. We kick off with the Office 2.0 Conference by Ismael Ghalimi, the event is in San Francisco September 5-7th at the St. Regis Hotel hotel. Empressr will have a demonstration booth there, so it you are thinking about coming to the event, please stop by. I attended the Office 2.0 event last year and I found it to be a great intimate setting. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people, and learn about what's developing in the business of Office 2.0. As a bonus you will receive a iPhone at no additional cost when you register... pretty cool.

On Deck: Quick Slideshow widget

To be release in our next scheduled push is a quick slideshow widget that will allow you to drag a series of assets (images, videos, etc), into the widget, hit create quick slideshow, and Empressr will generate a presentation with all selected assets. You can then publish the slideshow or add additional text, charts, images or video and then publish. This new feature will help build fast presentations.
